The holidays are upon us, but many people don’t realize that these most joyous of times can also be the most deadly. With the “Keep the Wreath Green” program in Escambia County and the City of Pensacola, public safety officials have joined forces to promote fire safety during December with a month’s worth of holiday safety tips and hope to reduce the number of fires during a time of serious fire dangers.

- Red Bulb #1- On Sunday, December 2, at 2:05 p.m., a fire was reported in the 8500 block of San Miguel Calzada. Firefighters arrived at 2:12 p.m. and found smoke coming from the mobile home and a fire in a bedroom. The fire, declared out at 2:28 p.m., caused moderate damage to the bedroom and smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters from Pleasant Grove, Myrtle Grove, Warrington, West Pensacola, and the Navy responded to the fire.
Red Bulb #2- On Tuesday, December 4 at 10:40 p.m., a fire was reported in the 1300 block of Wilson Ave. The fire caused major damage to the living room and kitchen, and smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the home. The cause of the fire was determined to be from a candle that was left unattended. Firefighters from Warrington, West Pensacola, Myrtle Grove, Pleasant Grove, Osceola, and the Navy responded to the fire
Red Bulb #3 - On Thursday, December 6 at 1:06 p.m., a fire was reported in the 6800 block of West Fairfield Drive. Firefighters arrived at 1:16 p.m. and found a second floor apartment fully involved with fire. The fire, declared under control at 1:45 p.m., caused major damage to one apartments, and seven other apartments received smoke and water damage. Two people were in the apartment at the time of the fire and received injuries, however they had left the scene prior to firefighters arriving. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal's office. Firefighters from Osceola, Myrtle Grove, Warrington, Bellview, Brent, Ensley, Pleasant Grove, West Pensacola, and the Navy responded to the fire. The American Red Cross has been called in to assist 14 people from the eight damaged apartments.
Red Bulb #4 - On Saturday, December 8 at 11:54 p.m. a fire was reported in the 1300 block of Rule Street. Firefighters arrived at 12:01 a.m. and found smoke and fire coming from windows on the front of the home. The occupants were alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm and they escaped through a bathroom window, as their primary escape route was blocked by the fire. The fire, declared out at 12:14 a.m., caused major damage to the living room and smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office. Firefighters from Ensley, Brent, Ferry Pass, and Bellview responded to the fire.
Red Bulb #5 – On Saturday, December 15 at 10:57 p.m. a fire was reported in the 4500 block of Mobile Highway. Firefighters arrived at 11:02 p.m. and found a fully involved travel trailer, being used as a permanent residence. The fire, declared under control at 11:11 p.m., caused the home to be a total loss. The cause of the fire was determined to be from a candle that was left unattended. The American Red Cross was called to assist the residence. Firefighters from Osceola, Myrtle Grove, Brent, and Warrington responded to the fire.
Red Bulb #6 - On Friday, December 21 at 12:56 a.m. a fire was reported in the 9700 block of Fowler Ave. Firefighters arrived at 1:03 a.m. and found a fully involved single wide mobile home. The fire, declared under control at 1:12 a.m., caused major damage throughout it. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal's office. Firefighters from Ensley, Bellview, Cantonment, and Ferry Pass responded to the fire.
