Escambia County invites the community to a public involvement open house on the Wedgewood Community Park Improvement Project on Monday, June 8 at 5 p.m. at the Marie K. Young-Wedgewood Community Center, located at 6405 Wagner Road.

The open house will give the public an opportunity to provide their input and learn more about proposed recreational improvements to Wedgewood Community Park, which include enhancements to existing park amenities along with the addition of new park amenities and features.

Attendees will have an opportunity to engage with District 3 Commissioner Lumon May, county staff and project consultants to ask questions and provide valuable feedback on the proposed improvements. One or more additional Escambia County Commissioners may attend.

Potential improvements may include:

  • New park entrance, road, and parking lot
  • Sidewalk and walking path improvements
  • Walking track with historical imagery and art
  • New and enhanced sports facilities (pickleball courts, softball/baseball field renovations, basketball court enhancements, disc golf course, multi-use field updates)
  • Pole barn for a produce market
  • Community garden/raised garden beds
  • Community swimming pool
  • Stormwater management improvements

This project is currently in the design phase, which is scheduled for completion in late 2026. The construction phase is anticipated to begin in early 2027 and conclude in 2028.

These improvements are made possible through funding provided by Escambia County's 1% Local Option Sales Tax (L.O.S.T.) and Resilient Florida Grant Program, which help advance community improvements and long-term stormwater and recreational resilience.
