HMGP: Lake Charlene / Warrington

The goal of this mitigation project is to improve drainage for the Lake Charlene area. The Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (FEMA/HMGP) has awarded to Escambia County a  grant for the Lake Charlene Outfall Project, to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters.  The project begins at the channel intersecting Lake Joanne Drive on the west and expands east to the intersection of South 61st Avenue, then south to the outfall at U.S. Highway 98.

The grant is set up in two phases:

Phase 1 - Design and Permitting: Complete

Federal HMGP Design Funds $314,274.
Design for this phase has been submitted to FDEM.
Phase 1 will provide protection against a 50-year storm event.

Phase 2 Construction: Pending

Federal HMGP Construction Funds in the amount of $2,101,252 were awarded but the grant expired.  Escambia County requested grant reinstatement from FEMA/FDEM.  Lake Charlene Homeowners Association performed a proxy vote which was presented to and approved by the Board of County Commissioners. FEMA/FDEM contract agreement has been received and approved by the Board of County Commissioners. FEMA/FDEM has fully executed the modified agreement.
