Household hazardous waste or household chemical waste and electronics can be brought to the Perdido Landfill year-round at no charge to Escambia County residents. These materials cannot go into the trash because they are toxic and may contaminate local water sources. The county also collects HHW and electronics at Regional Roundup events. No materials are accepted from businesses.

Materials considered HHW:

• Used oil
• Fluorescent bulbs (up to 8 ft. long, no more than 10 per customer)
• CFL, compact fluorescent light (no more than 10 per customer)
• Pesticides and herbicides
• Oil-based and latex paints (up to 20 gallons)
• Paint removers
• Mineral spirits
• Solvents
• Brake fluid
• Gasoline (up to 10 gallons)
• Household cleaners (glass, bathroom, kitchen, etc.)
• Antifreeze/coolant (up to 10 gallons) 
• Pool chemicals
• Batteries (rechargeable, lithium, computer, cell phone, etc.)
• Auto, marine and motorcycle batteries
• Old ammunition, flares, fireworks (50 caliber maximum)
• Propane and scuba tanks
• Sharps (they must be labeled in a container that is puncture resistant)

Materials not considered HHW:

• Appliances
• Medical waste
• Medication (Call a pharmacy or Pensacola Police Department for local collection of old medications. Do not pour down drains or dispose of in the garbage.)

Electronics:

• TVs, cell phones, remote controls, gaming systems, wiring, circuit boards, radios, keyboard and mouse, printers, copiers, microwaves, speakers, computers, cameras, monitors, etc.

Free Reblended Paint:

Escambia County offers a free paint re-blending program. Latex paint is screened twice, re-blended and put into new five-gallon buckets. The reblended paint may be picked up on Thursdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The paint is provided to the public in exchange for a new five-gallon bucket with a lid. Available colors may be creamy white, blue, green or other colors. Call 937-2160 for additional information, including color availability.

Residential Sharps/Needles Disposal Program

Residents can dispose of sharps/needles at the Perdido Landfill Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please enter landfill facility through weigh station.  The staff will provide additional instructions.

Needles/sharps should be placed in a puncture-resistant container such as a heavy-duty detergent bottle, metal container with a screw top or sharps disposal container. Do not use clear plastic or glass.
