Firefighters remain in constant preparation for and respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents and fire emergencies. They also provide public education services and continually practice and train for emergency situations.

Fire Cadet is an entry-level position that provides academic and on-the-job training in preparation to become a State-certified firefighter. Employees must perform all work tasks and comply with established schedules, attendance standards and duty requirements.

Performance is reviewed through observation by an assigned mentor, with evaluations completed weekly. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Volunteer firefighters operate and maintain firefighting equipment and keep their station ready to respond to emergencies. In addition to time spent at the station, volunteers are on call for emergency response 24 hours a day.

Volunteers receive training for structure and wildland fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies and hazardous materials spills. They also perform rescue duties during floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural disasters, with ongoing training in the latest emergency response techniques and technology.
